How to Search the Walker County Court Docket
Begin with the court that holds the record. Walker's free Search Docket handles Circuit and District settings, but it covers only a short rolling window of dates. Enter a setting date plus an optional last name. The docket for that day comes back as a PDF. Leave the last name blank and you get the whole date. Years of case history are beyond its reach. Use AlacourtAccess or the Circuit Clerk for a full case action summary, and bring the case number if you can. Alabama numbers carry type codes. CC means Circuit criminal, and CV means Circuit civil. DC covers District criminal, and SM covers small claims. Copy the complete number, punctuation included. Take it straight from a notice rather than rebuilding it by hand.
- Identify Circuit, District, Probate, or the municipal court named on the case paper.
- Use the county 64 daily docket for a near-term Circuit or District setting.
- Use AlacourtAccess by name or exact case number for broader state trial-court detail.
- Read the newest setting and case-action entries, since old settings remain in the history.
- Call or visit the custodian for an omitted case, a filed document, or a certified copy.
The official county 64 form uses this two-field design for a free Walker County docket check.
That narrow field set is the point. A daily search that comes up empty should send you to the clerk or a full case service, not to the conclusion that no Walker County case exists.
Walker County's Two Docket Tools
Walker County pairs a handy free calendar tool with Alabama's paid remote case service. Ask the free PDF one thing. Which Circuit or District matters are set on a displayed date? AlacourtAccess, also called Just One Look digs into Alabama state trial-court case detail. Search it by name or case number. Published pricing lists a $9.99 search and case detail, with document images billed separately. The checkout screen controls the current total.
| Access route | Best use | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| Walker daily docket | Near-term setting by date and optional last name | Rolling dates, not full history |
| AlacourtAccess | Name or case-number search and case detail | Paid remote retrieval |
| Clerk office | Free viewing, documents, copies, archives | Office hours and custodian process apply |
The official AlacourtAccess landing page presents the statewide on-demand route.
That interface reaches far more than the daily PDF. Still, when a setting controls attendance, only direct confirmation from the Circuit Clerk settles it.
What a Court Docket Shows
A Walker County court docket is a chronological index. It is the case action summary in Alabama system materials. The header names the court and its case number. Filing date, case type, status, judge, parties, and counsel follow where public. Later rows list filings, service, settings, orders, dispositions, financial entries, and appeals. A row proves the clerk recorded an event. The full text of the filed paper may not be there.
| Case number | The court's exact identifier, including case-type code, year, sequence, and punctuation. |
|---|---|
| Case style | The caption or abbreviated public party roles tied to the matter. |
| Case actions | Dated entries for pleadings, notices, motions, orders, service, and other events. |
| Settings | Date, time, court or division, and event type when those fields are published. |
| Disposition | The outcome at case or charge level, which must be matched to the right count or claim. |
| Documents | Links or identifiers for filed images when remote access is allowed and purchased. |
A motion entry is a request, not an order granting it. Resets do not erase the earlier date. A status like “disposed” does not say how each count ended. Read the newest rows first. When precise terms matter, get the signed order or judgment.
Walker County Docket Systems Explained
Three similar names do distinct jobs. AlaFile takes electronic filings from registered users. AlacourtPlus is the approved case-management system holding the official electronic record, while AlacourtAccess offers public remote retrieval, and Walker County adds its own county-coded daily PDF view. Calling every service a “docket search” hides those real limits.
- AlaFile
- The filing front end, not the general public's free case reader.
- AlacourtPlus
- The judiciary's central case-management record behind the docket.
- AlacourtAccess
- The paid public remote route for case detail and available document images.
- Search Docket
- Walker's free setting-date PDF for county code 64.
The official AlaFile interface directs public record users toward the proper access service.
The login screen shows why an e-filing account and a public docket lookup are not interchangeable tools. Alabama also maintains an official searchable eForms library for court forms.
A form can help a party spot a filing. The clerk's recorded case action still decides whether and when it entered a Walker County docket.
Which Courts Keep Dockets
The Circuit Clerk of Walker County keeps both Circuit Court and District Court dockets. One office, however, is not one court system. Probate Court maintains its statutory probate records. Each municipal court keeps its own docket for city ordinances and municipal traffic. Federal cases live elsewhere. They sit in a different judiciary and database entirely.
| Court | Docket covers | Where to search |
|---|---|---|
| Walker Circuit Court | Felonies, major civil, domestic relations, and lower-court appeals | Circuit Clerk, daily docket, AlacourtAccess |
| Walker District Court | Misdemeanors, preliminary felony matters, state or county traffic, small claims, and lower civil | Circuit Clerk, daily docket, AlacourtAccess |
| Walker Probate Court | Estates, wills, guardianships, conservatorships, and other probate matters | Probate Court custodian |
| Municipal courts | City ordinance and city police traffic matters | The issuing city's clerk or court |
The official Walker judicial contacts page identifies the local courts and judicial offices.
Use the current contact list, not an older annual report, to confirm a judge or division. The county's official Probate Court page marks the separate access point for probate business.
Probate matters sit outside a Circuit or District search. Route them to that office rather than assuming the file does not exist.
Walker County Docket Scale
Official fiscal 2023 figures show why court identification matters. Walker Circuit Court received 1,704 cases. Walker District Court received 10,774, and traffic formed 71 percent of District intake. Circuit filings split 49 percent criminal, 20 percent civil, and 31 percent domestic. Those are filing categories, not wait-time measures. They do explain why a traffic citation and a major civil action travel different Walker County docket routes.
That same fiscal year, the Circuit Court disposed of 1,884 matters and District Court 10,969. The totals may include work on older pending cases, not just new filings. No single case's pace can be predicted from them.
Finding Court Dates and Settings
Start with the newest notice or order in the case. Does the date fall inside the free Walker docket window? Pick that setting date. Then search with or without the last name. Compare the PDF against the newest setting row in the full case detail. A continuance or reset usually adds a new entry. The earlier one stays visible as history.
Check the date, time, court or division, and setting type. Docket call, arraignment, pretrial, plea, trial, sentencing, and review each mean something different. Call the Circuit Clerk or the correct municipal clerk if a date is missing. That call also settles a possible emergency closure or two conflicting notices. The full Walker County court calendar process explains each fallback and setting field.
Missing a setting can carry serious case consequences. A payment-page error or a blank daily PDF does not cancel an appearance. Only the court can confirm a change.
Walker County Docket History
Walker County's courthouse opened in 1933. The white limestone building was designed by Alabama architect Charles H. McCauley. An April 3, 1974 tornado tore through it and left severe damage. That history shapes how you search today. Older dockets may sit in bound volumes, paper files, microfilm, or an archive instead of AlacourtPlus. The Circuit Clerk also keeps judgment records from abolished inferior courts by statute. The official Walker Circuit Clerk site shows the present courthouse. It also lists the office's contact block.
Today's electronic counter is one link in a much longer record chain. A historical request goes faster with an approximate year, the court, the case type, and any party name or case number you know.
Public Access to Dockets
Alabama judiciary policy lets you view regular Walker County dockets and electronically filed public documents at the Circuit Clerk's office at no charge. Remote access costs money instead. Copies and certification can add fees on top. Access is broad but not absolute, and online case information can run late or come up short.
Key Alabama access rules:
Alabama Code § 36-12-40 recognizes inspection and copying of public writings, subject to legal exceptions.
Alabama Code § 36-12-41 addresses copies on request and payment of lawful fees.
Alabama Code § 36-12-45 supplies a model for a specific records request and resident certification.
Rule of Judicial Administration 31 governs electronic-record oversight and protection of identifying information.
Request a case file by case number, court, document title, and filing date. Be narrow. A precise ask is far easier for the clerk to pull than a blanket demand for every record tied to a name.
When Walker County Dockets Go Missing
A blank result can mean several things. You may be asking the wrong office. The last name might be spelled differently. Or the daily-docket date falls outside its rolling window. A city ticket can still sit in municipal court. Probate files belong to the Probate Court, and older records may simply predate the electronic system.
Some Walker County court records stay closed by law. Juvenile and Youthful Offender material generally sits outside ordinary public inspection. Sealed, expunged, adoption, and protected family content may be omitted or partly hidden. Social Security numbers, full birth dates, and account details must be shielded too. A missing row never tells you which rule applies.
If you are an authorized party seeking a restricted record, contact the office that holds it. Identify the case. Bring photo identification, and ask what order or proof of authority is needed. The clerk can explain office procedure but cannot give legal advice.
The Clerk and Docket Records
Richard Fikes serves as Circuit Clerk of Walker County. His office takes in filings and assigns case numbers. It maintains Circuit and District case action summaries, accounts for court funds, and issues copies. Call ahead for process questions, current settings, docket omissions, or a fee quote. A written request should name the case number, court, document, copy type, delivery method, and a callback number. The official Circuit Clerk duties page describes the office behind the Walker County docket.
Use the current office contact, not stale directory listings, when arranging a visit or copy request.
Circuit Clerk of Walker County
1803 Third Avenue, Suite 205
Jasper, AL 35501
(205) 384-7268
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; closed noon to 1:00 p.m.
Alabama policy backs free electronic viewing inside the office. Published remote and statewide copy fees disagree in places, so get a current total before sending payment or ordering certification.
Walker County Referral Docket Entries
The Court Referral Officer Program works out of the courthouse basement. It takes referrals from Circuit, District, juvenile, and municipal courts. Its staff assess and monitor substance-related education, treatment, testing, and electronic monitoring. It is a program office, though, not a docket custodian of its own.
A referral or compliance event can show up in the underlying case action summary. Walker County also runs an Adult Drug Court. But the program posts no separate public search or distinct docket portal. Treatment records can stay protected even when a public criminal case shows a procedural entry. Search the original case number and ask the court where the public record line falls.
The official Court Referral page lists its courthouse location and services. Call the program at (205) 384-7251 for its process. Docket copies still come from the proper clerk.
Walker County State and Federal Dockets
AlacourtAccess covers Alabama state trial courts only. It holds no federal civil, criminal, or bankruptcy dockets. Walker County sits in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. Federal cases run through PACER and the court's CM/ECF system, while Northern District bankruptcy matters go through the federal Bankruptcy Court's system. Appeals from federal district court land in the Eleventh Circuit.
Jurisdiction is your first clue. A Walker Circuit or District case number belongs on the Alabama route. A federal district and case number belongs in PACER. Neither database serves as the appeal search for the other. When the forum is unclear, read the heading on a notice or pleading before paying for any search.
Court Dockets by City in Walker County
Municipal courts handle city ordinance cases and city police traffic cases. County code 64 cannot disprove a municipal case. The citation itself names the charging court. Jasper offers a current court information and payment path. Dora and Carbon Hill publish municipal channels. For Sumiton and Cordova, call the clerk directly, since those cities post no indexed historical case portal.
Jasper Court Docket
Population 14,572 · Municipal court notices and city traffic or ordinance cases.
Sumiton Court Docket
Population 2,444 · Cross-county geography makes the printed court name essential.
Dora Court Docket
Population 2,297 · Monthly municipal court and an official payment route.
Cordova Court Docket
Population 1,837 · Direct city contact is the key fallback when no public portal is indexed.
Carbon Hill Court Docket
Population 1,818 · Municipal clerk contact and an official fine-payment search.
A municipal appeal can open a separate Circuit Court docket. Felonies and general civil cases bypass municipal courts entirely, so the county-level court remains the right route for those matters.
Map and Directions to the Walker County Courthouse
Circuit and District Court files are kept at the Walker County Courthouse in Jasper, a 1933 white-limestone building designed by Charles H. McCauley that survived severe damage in the April 3, 1974 tornado. The Circuit Clerk's counter is Suite 205. The Court Referral Officer Program, a separate treatment-monitoring service that is not the docket custodian, operates from the courthouse basement.
